What You See Is What You Get

This week I'm working on a message based on Hebrews 11 that exposes the connection between faith and reality. Simply put, what you see (i.e., what you believe about the future) is what you get.

I'm convinced that many of us "see" only what is most directly in front of us. We see negative circumstances, we believe negative thoughts, and we invariably get more of the same.

Others, like Noah, Abraham, and Moses, see something that isn't really there--or not yet. They "see," by faith, a better future and take positive steps to bring it about.

What about you? Have you noticed this connection in your own life?

What are the two or three most persistent negative thoughts that you have to fight against?

Which positive, faith-inspired thoughts help you to have confidence about the future?

On Sunday I'll share the three faith-statements that have had the most profound effect on my life. For now, I'd like to hear yours.

What a great topic to preach on- so needed. This has been where I have been hanging out this summer..believing God at His word.

Beth Moore's 5 statement pledge is something that I say when I get negative on myself- that I deserve to be punished because I keep messing up.
1. God is who He says He is
2. God can do what He says He can do
3. I am who God says I am
4. God's word is alive and active in me
5. I can do all things through Christ (and I add..who strengthens me)
I'm believing God! None of this is ever based on us- but on how awesome and loving God is. That is the best part about faith, I think.

One of the greatest encouragements to true faith is in 1 Cor 8:2 "The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know."

Often I mistake mental assent for true faith. 'I know God loves me' 'I know God hears my prayer' 'I know God wants to guide my path'.

This verse challenges me to know completely that what God says is what will stand, and He will do it for the believing one.
