Put Your Dream to the Test
By John C. Maxwell
Hardcover, 272 pp., $25.99
Thomas Nelson Publishers

This may be John Maxwell's best book. The author's aim is to help readers determine what their greatest aspirations are and whether or not they stand a reasonable chance of achieving them. I found the book insightful and helpful in assessing my own life and ministry goals.

In typical Maxwell fashion, the author uses stories and quotations to illustrate 10 chapters, each organized around a question relating to dream fulfillment. There are lots of practical suggestions, and each chapter concludes with a list of diagnostic questions that help the reader personalize the chapter's content.

This is not a complicated book, but it is thought provoking. Anyone who has wondered if they have the ability to reach their life or career goals, or who wonders why they have been unsuccessful in achieving their aspirations, will benefit from it.

Over the past several years, I've become a fan of Maxwell's work. He is sometimes criticized for being a bit shallow, but I find his books immensely helpful. I read few books a second time, but I'm keeping my copy of this one. The 10 questions, and especially the diagnostic sections at the end of each chapter, are insightful and worthy of a second look.

Hmm, does he help you figure out what to do instead- if you are not truly equipped for your "dream?"

Sounds very interesting.
Thanks!

Arielle ... No, he doesn't help you figure out what you should do but helps you ask the right questions.

Interestingly, that has been the primary comment I've heard from others as well ... something like, "Sounds like a great book, but I'm not even sure what my dream is!"

No pat answers in the book, but it does contain good prompts for thinking about questions like that.
