If You Could Ask God Anything

If you could ask God one question, what would it be? I’ve heard people ask God lots of questions, and I would gather them roughly into three groups.
Curiosity
First are the simple questions that nearly everybody wonders about at some time.
• Where did the world come from?
• Why do people speak different languages?
• Is there life on other planets?
These are simple questions arising from our curiosity about the world.
Frustration
A second category of questions deals with more essential—and more painful issues.
• Why do you allow people to suffer?
• What happens when you die?
• Is heaven real?
These questions are closer to home. They rise from the disappointment and frustration that we inevitably experience with ourselves, other people, and even God.
Aspiration
A third type of question goes deeper still. It originates not with our frustration with the external world but from the hopes and aspirations of our internal life. They’re questions like these.
• Is there a greater purpose to my life?
• What will make me happy?
• Am I doing the right things with my life?
This week I’m beginning Need to Know, a preaching series based on Genesis, which is something like an owner’s manual for the human life. It contains the most basic things God has to say, and while it’s not exactly a textbook, it does contain answers to some of the basic questions we have.
As I gear up for this series, I’m wondering, seriously, if you could as God one question, what would it be? Continue Reading >

Honestly, I'm curious about one tiny little thing - am I supposed to have a 3rd child or not?! (Difficult deliberately choosing when you have 2 busy ones already.) :-)
I'd probably ask why Hell has to be eternal. I'd want to know why God can't offer those souls an open enrollment period once every few years so that if any of them changed their minds after hitting rock bottom, they can still love him and be with him.
Monica, I actually have a series on my weblog about why to have three (or more) kids. :-) The posts are here, but they list in reverse chronological order:

Daddy, I can answer these questions already.
1- God made it.
2- Towel of Babel.
3- No.
4- Sin is the root of all suffering.
5- You either go to heaven or hell.
6- Yes.
7- Yes.
8- Become closer to God and live out His purpose in your life.
9- Ditto.
Does that make me a knowitall?
Monica, I find questions like these to be the most challenging because they deal with a specific case--one person's life decision.
I have come to believe in God's permissive will--meaning that within the bounds of "right," many good choices are possible.
Skippy ... yes, my daughter, you are a know it all :-)
Did He know that such evil would be result of creating beings with free will? Why didn't he just deal with Lucifer on the front end, instead of casting him out to destroy the world? Everything of his creation is so awesome, why allow it to be ruined. That and maybe is megaton container of Folgers cheaper at Walmart or grocery this week? Thanks
